University Forum Lecture, UN Las Vegas

Marjorie Barrick Museum of Art, Auditorium

Susan Rawcliffe: Independent Artist and Researcher
Angel’s Gate Cultural Center, Los Angeles, California

For over 35 years, Susan Rawcliffe has been making, playing, and
researching ceramic flutes. In addition to extensive exhibitions,
performances, and lectures, she is a recognized scholar of
pre-conquest Mesoamerican musical instruments. Her research has
informed and inspired her work as an artist, research which she will
share with us through images, through her sound recordings of
ancient flutes, with excerpts from contemporary ensemble
recordings, and live demonstrations of original ceramic sound
sculptures.
Co-sponsored by UNLV’s Departments of History, Anthropology, and
Interdisciplinary, Gender, and Ethnic Studies
